This mismatched group of horses is made of the odds and ends of other broken herds. They have been steadily losing territory to Basta's wolves for the past several generations, and most herds have moved on to find easier pastures. The six that now remain are five horses who refused to leave their homeland behind, even for the promise of a better life. They are determined to live out their lives on what's left of their meadows. The sixth is Donna's small colt, Cricket. Acorn says he will have to make the decision for himself when he's grown, whether to stay or go.
The dominance ranks are not as strong as they would be in a true herd, but the horses are comforted by some sense of structure:
Lead Stallion: Acorn
Broodmare: Belladonna ("Donna")
Healer: Willow
Protector Stallions: Rye and Huckleberry ("Huck")
Foals: Cricket (Donna's colt)
